History of the beautiful area

Körönd Palace is located on Andrássy út in the most beautiful and upscale area of Budapest

ANDRÁSSY STREET

Until the 19th century, Terézváros was hit by Király utca, which connected the city center with the outer areas and the City Park. Although there was even a tram on Király utca, due to its narrow line, it was no longer able to service the increased traffic by the middle of the century.

In addition, the crowded built-up area of Terézváros blocked the natural air flows, thus further aggravating the already unhealthy and crowded part of the city.

To remedy the problems raised by Count id. Prime Minister Gyula Andrássy plans to build a new avenue.

The idea of renovating Andrássy Avenue arose in the late 1980s. It was first necessary in the 1920s to replace the sycamore trees installed on the section between Oktogon and Heroes’ Square. Eighty percent of the tree line was destroyed or rendered inescapable by air pollution, salting and desalination of roads, and fungal diseases.

According to the decision made in 1989, between Oktogon and Kodály körönd, whip trees that were better able to withstand the urban load and plane trees outside Körönd were planted. The pace of alley replacement was adjusted to the reconstruction of the Millennium Underground Railway.

KODÁLY KÖRÖND

Kodály körönd Budapest VI. in the district of Terézváros. Andrássy út passes through it, while Szív utca and Felsőerdősor utca are connected perpendicular to it. The square is named after musicologist Zoltán Kodály.

The space consists of 4 buildings and the circular terraces in front of them. The numbering of the 4 buildings follows the path of Andrássy, although they have their own numbering, Kodály körönd. As Andrássy út is a World Heritage Site, the 4 buildings are also part of it

Kodály körönd is one of the two squares of Andrássy út (the other is Oktogon). Between the two squares is the middle section of Andrássy út, and the third section of the road from Kodály körönd to Hősök tér. The middle section is still built with tenement houses, while the outer section is dominated by villa buildings, so the circle connects the two separate “faces” of Andrássy út.

Under the Andrássy út runs the World Heritage metro line M1, which was opened in 1896 and has a stop on the ring road, which is also called Kodály körönd.
